Severna Park is located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Anne Arundel County was the third county establish in the state of Maryland in the year 1650. Severna Park is located between the eastern shore of the Severn River and the northwestern shore of Magothy River. North of Severna Park is Pasadena and Glen Burnie, south is Arnold and Annapolis, east is Lake Shore, and west is Herald Harbor and Crownsville.
According to 2010 U.S. census data, Severna Park has a total population of 37,634 people and 16.49 square miles of land area. An interesting fact is that Severna Park has grown by approximately 33% since 2000 when it last census data was reported.
Severna Park is bisected by MD 2 (Ritchie Highway). MD 2 extends from Glen Burnie to the north and southeasterly towards Arnold. To the west lies I-97 and MD 3 (Veterans Highway). These two highways provide direct passage to Baltimore to the north and Annapolis to the south. Additional roadways that serve as major connectors to the north and south are Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard and Jumpers Hole Road.
The Baltimore and Annapolis Trail is a major attraction in the Severna Park area. The B&A Trail is a 13.5 mile paved trail used by the community for hiking and biking. The B&A Trail extends from MD 176 to Annapolis. The B&A Trail was formerly the Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad. The Severna Park area residents also treasure the local rivers because they provide an excellent source for crabbing, fishing, and boating.
